Where Pressure Reflex Came From
For Over 30 Years, I Tried To Fix It.
I Started Young.
I read every book I could find. I snuck off to hear Zig Ziglar, Bob Proctor and Wayne Dyer speak.
I Tried Everything.
I went to therapy. I went to conferences. I read more books and listened to more podcasts than I can count.
All of it was me trying to fix the version of me that showed up under pressure. Be less defensive. Less controlling. Stop overthinking everything.
Rinse And Repeat.
I’d walk away knowing exactly how I wanted to handle it next time.
Then next time came. Same reaction. Same conversation. Rinse and repeat.
You know this one. You can see, 15 minutes later, exactly what you would do differently. Then it happens again, and you do the same thing.
Under pressure we don’t go to what we figured out afterward. We go to our training. We go to our Pressure Reflexes.
The Wreck.
Then came the motorcycle wreck. 6 months in a wheelchair. Another 18 months learning to walk again.
The Turning Point.
Months alone in a wheelchair gives a person time to think. That’s when it hit me.
I spent over 35 years trying to get the world to accept me, when I had not fully accepted myself.
Unlocking that insight unlocked the world, and it led me here.
The Question That Changed Everything
What turns an ordinary moment into a threat?
The Answer
The moment was never the threat. My brain learned to read it as one.
A question in a meeting. A text with no reply. My brain read them as danger, and a version of me took over to protect me.
That version is a Pressure Reflex.
